MARION, ILL. - Northern Kentucky University held off UIndy to pull out its third Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon at Kokopelli Golf Club. The Norse fired a final round 328 to complete the event with an 84-over-par 660 (332-328).
Norse junior Sophie Rasmussen collected medalist honors at the tournament, leading the way for Northern Kentucky's ten-stroke victory. Rasmussen finished with a 16-over-par 160 (78-82) and held off UIndy's Sarah Prascsak who shot a 159.
UIndy completed the 36-hole event with a 94-over-par 670 (343-327). Drury, Southern Indiana and SIU Edwardsville rounded out the top five in the team standings.
The Norse had four players finish in the top 16 individually. Alicia Lawrence placed tenth in the tournament with a 23-over-par 167 (85-82). Teammates Charity Evans and Alicia Stauffacher placed14th and 16th, respectively.
Rasmussen, UIndy's Lyndsay McBride and SIU Edwardsville's Julie Cline earned All-GLVC honors after their performance at the GLVC Tournament. McBride tied for third place at Kokopelli and Cline placed fifth.
In addition, five other players were honored at a banquet prior to the event as All-GLVC selections based on season scoring average. Those players include UIndy's Kristi Piepenbrinck and Prascsak, NKU's Stauffacher, and Southern Indiana's Jess Dooley and Tara Wiley.
Piepenbrink, who had a 77.44 season scoring averaged, was named the GLVC Player of the Year.
Drury's Susan Allen was named the GLVC Freshman of the Year after posting an 82.72 season scoring average.
Northern Kentucky head coach Daryl Landrum was selected by his peers as the GLVC Coach of the Year.
