NKU's Lewis Named GLVC Men's Golfer of the Month
INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky’s Danny Lewis, a junior from Morrow, Ohio, is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s September Golfer of the Month. Lewis, collected medalist honors at a pair of events during the month.
The junior standout opened the month with a 14th-place finish at the Wasiota Winds Fall Kick-Off held in Pineville, Ky. Lewis finished the 54-hole tournament with a 72-72-75=219 in a field of 63 players. His 3-over-par effort helped the Norse to a second-place team finish in the 10-team event.
Lewis shined at the Great Lakes Regional held at Hawks Head Golf Course. He captured medalist honors at the event by eight strokes, defeating 118 other regional golfers. Lewis fired a 68-67=135 to complete the 36-hole event 9-under-par and led the Norse to an eighth-place finish.
At the NCAA D-II Preview held at the Sagamore Club in Noblesville, Ind., Lewis tied for sixth-place in a field of 93 players. He finished with rounds of 76-77 to finish 9-over-par. Northern Kentucky placed 11th at the event with a team score of 644.
For the month, Lewis completed seven rounds and posted a monthly scoring average of 72.11.
Other top performers in the GLVC for the month of September included Drury’s Thomas Hay, Illinois-Springfield’s Zach Phillips, Indianapolis’ Seth Fair, Lewis’ Casey Pyne, Rockhurst’s Clarke Fry and Southern Indiana’s Matt Hancock.
