Numerous GLVC Teams Earn NSCAA Team Academic Awards

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Great Lakes Valley Conference recently had several men's and women's soccer programs recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) as recipients of the 2009 College Team Academic Award.

The NSCAA awarded the 2009 College Team Academic Awards to those programs that maintained a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2008-09 academic year. 

Rockhurst led the GLVC women's soccer recipients with a 3.61 team grade point average in 2008-09. Joining the Hawks were the women's soccer programs from Bellarmine (3.31), Drury (3.35), Indianapolis (3.35), Lewis (3.29), Maryville (3.50), Missouri S&T (3.38), Missouri-St. Louis (3.15), Northern Kentucky (3.20) and Quincy (3.43).

The Drury men's soccer team posted the top GLVC grade point average (3.27) and were joined as NSCAA Team Academic Award recipients by Bellarmine (3.19), Indianapolis (3.16), Maryville (3.10), Quincy (3.18), Rockhurst (3.14) and UW-Parkside (3.08).

In addition, the league's newest member William Jewell College had both its men's and women's soccer teams earn the NSCAA Team Acadmic Award. The Cardinals' women's program posted a 3.32 grade point average and the men's team had a 3.27 grade point average. William Jewell will begin competition in the GLVC in 2011.

Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Maryville, Quincy, Rockhurst and William Jewell joined an elite group of 99 schools to have both their men's and women's program earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award.
