GLVC Announces Weekly Softball Player of the Week Honorees

INDIANAPOLIS – Missouri S&T’s Jen O’Hara (Chardon, Ohio) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week and Lewis University’s Kelly Dianis (Hinsdale, Ill.) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Player of the Week.

 

O’Hara, a senior pitcher for the Miners, posted back-to-back complete games on Sunday to help Missouri S&T secure the final spot in the upcoming GLVC Softball Tournament.

 

On the week O’Hara went 4-1, including four complete-game shutouts, and did not allow an earned run. She logged 38 and one-third innings in seven appearances and also picked up a save, her second of the season.

 

She opened the week with a three-hit shutout over Quincy, a 1-0 Missouri S&T victory. In the seven-innings, she struck out three and surrendered just one walk.

 

After posting a save in Wednesday’s 4-1 win over Southwest Baptist, O’Hara struck out seven in the Miners’ 2-0 win over Drury on Saturday.

 

O’Hara closed the weekend by posting back-to-back shutouts over Rockhurst. In the first game, a 4-0 Miners’ win, O’Hara allowed three hits and struck out five. She allowed just three-hits in the nightcap and struck out two in Missouri S&T’s’ 2-0 victory.

 

This season, O’Hara is 12-16 with a 2.34 ERA. She has recorded six shutouts in 33 outings and has struck out 121 batters.

 

Missouri S&T (21-26) finished eighth in the GLVC regular season standings with a 10-12 GLVC mark. The Miners have won seven of their last ten games and will play Missouri-St. Louis in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday.

 

Dianis, a senior shortstop for the Flyers, helped Lewis to a 6-0 record last weekend, including a series sweep over Quincy in a key GLVC matchup.

 

In the six games, Dianis hit .529 (9-17) with nine runs, four RBIs, two home runs and an .882 slugging percentage.

 

In Lewis’ sweep of Robert Morris on Wednesday, Dianis was 3-for-5 with four runs, an RBI and home run.

 

She returned on Thursday to go 4-for-7 with four runs, a home runs and two RBIs, helping Lewis to a sweep of Judson. The home run was the 27th of Dianis’ career, setting a new school mark.

 

In Lewis’ doubleheader sweep of visiting Quincy on Sunday, Dianis posted the lone hit and game-winning RBI in the first game, a 1-0 Flyers’ victory. She completed the series with a 1-for-2 performance with a run scored in Lewis’ 2-0 win.

 

On the year, Dianis is hitting .310 with 21 runs, 12 RBIs, four home runs and four doubles. She currently boasts an eight-game hitting streak.

 

Lewis (35-16) finished fifth in the GLVC standings and will face Saint Joseph’s in the first round of the GLVC Tournament on Friday.

 

Other top performers in GLVC last week included Indianapolis’ Ashley Boxley and Amanda Wendlinger, Lewis’ Courtney Lyons, Missouri-St.  Louis’ Allyson DeFosset, Northern Kentucky’s Jessica Ferris and April Ehlers, Quincy’s Torie Bunzell, Saint Joseph’s Nicole Costello, Southern Indiana’s Lacy Ligmanowski and Dawn McClellan.
