Seven year pro joins Panthers

OWENSBORO, Ky. - Barry Duncan, general manager and head professional at The Summit Country Club in Owensboro, has been chosen as Kentucky Wesleyan's men's golf coach, according to KWC's Director of Athletics Gary Gallup.

“We are extremely fortunate to have a coach of Barry’s caliber to join our staff," Gallup said. "As the head professional at the Summit Country Club, he is well known and respected in the community and brings outstanding experience and teaching credentials to our golf program.”

Duncan, 51, comes to the Panther program with seven years of professional experience. His resume includes five years at The Summit and two years as the assistant pro at Sultan's Run Golf Course in Jasper, Ind.

"With my experience from playing golf and my knowledge of the golf swing, I feel like this opportunity will be beneficial to me, KWC, and the young men on the golf team," Duncan added.

" We are blessed that the roster is fully stocked with 12 experienced student-athletes from the 2008-09 season. I already know some of the team members and I look forward to helping them elevate all aspects of their game.

The native of Greenville, Ky., has competed in three U.S. Open and two Senior U.S. Open qualifying tournaments. He also placed ninth out of 4,900 entries at the DuPont World Amateur Tournament.

In 2005, Duncan collected 14 wins in 24 tournaments by shooting a 69.6 average. The 2004 season watched him produce nine wins in 20 tournaments by posting a 70.3 average.

Locally, he has won the titles to the Windridge County Club and Hillcrest Golf Course Men's Championships in recent years.

"I look forward to building this program that will become part of the great KWC sports tradition that the people of KWC, Owensboro/Daviess County and the surrounding area will be proud of.

"With Jill Carter taking over the women's program and myself joining the men, the success of the Panther golf programs will continue to grow."

Duncan and his wife, Deborah, have three children — Cameron, Gage and Hannah — where they reside in Utica.
