USI Track & Field Posts 10 Top-10 Finishes in Season-Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men’s and women’s track and field teams opened the 2010 indoor season by racking up 10 top-10 finishes at the Indiana University Gladstein Invitational Friday night and Saturday afternoon at the Gladstein Fieldhouse.
 
Senior All-American Mary Ballinger (Chesterton, Indiana) led the women’s team with a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter invitational Friday night, posting a time of 10 minutes, 00.13 seconds.
 
As a team, the women’s squad posted three top-10 finishes, with sophomores Jackie Henderson (Schererville, Indiana) and Adrienne Curtis (Louisville, Kentucky) placing eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter invitational.
 
Sophomore Dustin Emerick (Elmwood, Indiana) also had a fifth-place finish in the 3,000 meters Friday night to pace the men’s squad, which had a total of seven top-10 performers. Emerick cross the finish line in eight minutes, 33.79 seconds.
 
Senior Andrew Menner (Greenwood, Indiana) finished sixth in mile, while freshman Wes Camp (Evansville, Indiana) was seventh in the 5,000 meters and sophomore Wes Masterson (Danville, Indiana) was seventh in the 800 meters.
 
The Screaming Eagles return to action when they compete at the Indiana Relays in Bloomington, Indiana, January 29-30.
