GLVC Volleyball Tournament Quarterfinals

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Southern Indiana, Indianapolis, Missouri-St. Louis and Lewis each claimed quarterfinal victories at the 2010 GLVC Volleyball Championships being held at Neil Carey Arena on the campus of Lewis University. The four teams have advanced to Saturday's semifinal matches. Complete coverage of the tournament follows.

Game 1 -  #3 Southern Indiana def. #6 Rockhurst, 3-2

No. 3 seed Southern Indiana rallied from a 2-1 deficit on Friday afternoon to secure a win in the first match of the GLVC Tournament over No. 6 seed Rockhurst. The Eagles won the match 25-20, 17-25, 16-25, 25-14, 15-13. Behind five kills from Danielle LaGrange, the Eagles (18-10) grabbed a tight fifth set which featured six ties and three lead changes. LaGrange led the Eagles with a match-high 20 kills. Teammate Brittani Oliver added a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs and setter Jorae Bradbury posted 54 assists. Rockhurst (22-10) was led by Maggie McGovern and Nicci Hartley who each had a team-high 16 kills. Southern Indiana notched 22 blocks in the match and captilized in the fourth and fifth sets by averaging a 74.5 sideout percentage. Southern Indiana will face the winner of the Bellarmine-Indianapolis match on Saturday at 5 p.m.

#2 Indianapolis def. #7 Bellarmine, 3-0 

All-GLVC First Team performer Cheneta Morrison guided No. 2 seed UIndy to a 3-0 sweep over No. 7 seed Bellarmine in a GLVC Volleyball Tournament quarterfinal match on Friday afternoon. Morrison posted a double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs and also added six kills to help the Greyhounds avenge a regular-season loss to the Knights, 28-26, 25-18, 26-24. UIndy (24-7) limited Bellarmine to a .168 hitting percentage on the afternoon, while attacking at a .220 clip. Kristina Hefferan and Courtney Crawford led the attack from the outside by tallying 14 and 10 kills, respectively.  Bellarmine (18-10) was led by senior Emily Beckman who had 15 kills and 10 digs. The Greyhounds will now faced No. 3 seed Southern Indiana in Saturday's first semifinal match at 5 p.m. CT. UIndy defeated Southern Indiana during the regular season.

#5 Missouri-St. Louis def. #4 Northern Kentucky, 3-2

No. 5 seed Missouri-St. Louis rallied from a 2-1 deficit to take down No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky on Friday evening, 23-25, 26-24, 18-25, 25-23, 19-17, in a GLVC Tournament Quarterfinal. In a thrilling rematch of a five-set regular season thriller exactly one week ago, UMSL mounted comebacks in the fourth and fifth sets to secure the victory. The Tritons (20-7) turned away a pair of NKU match points in the fifth set and capitalized on a NKU ball handling error and bad set on the final two points to grab the win. UMSL's well-balanced attack was paced by Weslie Gaff and Shelby Crawford who each posted a team-high 16 kills. NKU (20-13) was led by Sarah Drennen who tallied a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs. With the victory, UMSL advances to the semifinal round on Saturday and will meet the winner of the Lewis-Drury match.

#1 Lewis def. #1 Drury, 3-0

Top-seed Lewis cruised to a 3-0 victory over No. 8 seed Drury in the final quarterfinal match of the day. The Flyers received big contributions from Carly Perschnick and Lauren Seliga who had 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Seliga also delivered 10 digs to post the double-double. GLVC Player of the Year Rachel Ruedi paced the club with 31 assists as the Flyers posted a .292 attack percentage on the night. Drury (22-13) was led by Alex Smith who had a team-high 10 kills. Setter Austin Warren finished with 31 assists. Lewis (24-4) advances to the semifinal round on Saturday where it will face Missouri-St. Louis. The Tritons won the regular season match in St. Louis.
