No. 17 UW-Parkside Wins GLVC Women's Soccer Championship

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The No. 17 Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team captured the 2010 GLVC Championship on Sunday afternoon by upsetting No. 5 Northern Kentucky at NKU Soccer Stadium, 3-2. It is the second championship for the Rangers in the past three seasons and fourth overall.

Trailing 2-1 late in the second half, UW-Parkside (16-2-1) scored twice in the last 13 minutes to grab the victory. Stephanie Barsuli scored off a cross from Shannon Becker to knot the score at 2-2 in the 78th minute.

Caitlin Moon tapped in a rebound in the 88th minute to notch the game-winner off a cross that was mishandled by Norse goalkeeper Rachael Wood.

Northern Kentucky's Megan Frye opened the scoring on the afternoon by scoring from 10 yards out on assists from Amanda Mason and Hannah Wissel in the fourth minute.

UW-Parkside tied the score in the 10th minute on a goal from Brown, prior to NKU retaking the lead on a goal by Mason in the 30th minute. She was assisted on the play by Allison Ponser.

The Rangers earn the GLVC automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament with the victory.
