UIndy Notches Third-Place Finish Among Regional Field

NOBLESVILLE, Ind.- The 19th-ranked UIndy men's golf team vaulted five spots in the final round at the Great Lakes Spring Regional Monday, finishing third among 22 in-region opponents. Senior Seth Fair (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) and sophomore Aaron Monson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) each shot one-over par at Purgatory Golf Course in Noblesville, Ind., good for seventh place individually.
After carding a one-over 73 in the first round, Monson shot even par Monday to notch his first top-10 finish of the spring and third of the year. Fair (72-73), who was three-over par for much of the day Monday, eagled the 18th hole before birdying the first to move up from 11th after 18 holes to his final position of seventh.
Junior Blair Webb (Avon, Ind./Avon) shaved three strokes off his first-round 77 by shooting two-over Monday to jump from 58th to 30th. Senior Kyle Miller (Middlebury, Ind./Northridge) went 75 and 77 to share 40th, while fellow senior Brad Abel (Nappanee, Ind./Northwood) finished with a 156 (79-77) to tie for 60th among the 113-man field.
Wayne State used a first-round 283 (-5) to help take the team title by 12 strokes. Findlay’s Joe McGeean (68-72), who fired an ace Sunday on the 212-yard seventh hole, grabbed the individual title.
As the two-time defending league champs, UIndy puts its conference crown on the line at the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships later this week. The event will be held at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus, Ind. Apr. 15-16. Click here to view the tourney’s home page.
