OWENSBORO, Ky. - Nicole Nieman, assistant women's basketball coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College, has been promoted to head coach, as announced by Panthers director of athletics Gary Gallup.

“Nicole’s passion for the game, organizational skills, and ability to relate to our student-athletes are unparalleled," said Gallup. "Working as a team with Caleb Nieman (her husband), who will remain on the staff, they are both first-class role models which in my opinion might be the most important quality.  We are very excited about the future of women's basketball.”

Prior to coming to KWC last summer, Nieman served two seasons as an assistant and head junior varsity coach at legendary Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She helped lead the Knights to 35 wins in two years including a 19-8 record in 2009 where they set the NCAA Division III single game attendance record 4,395.

"My husband and I are extremely excited to be a part of the Kentucky Wesleyan College women’s basketball program," Nieman said. "We are thankful to Gary Gallup and the selection committee for putting their faith in us as leaders of a program with so much potential.

"It is a privilege to have the opportunity to be an integral part of the character and leadership development of the young ladies here at KWC.  We are looking forward to working with them to create an unique experience that distinguishes us amongst the top programs in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and the Midwest Region."

Nieman also served for four seasons as co-head coach with Caleb at Greenville High School in Greenville, Mich. They inherited a 2-19 team, and proceeded to take the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back Class A district playoff wins for the first time since the 1998 season. For their accomplishment, the Nieman's were named the Area's Coach of the Year.
