UIndy's Russell, Keltz Sweep Weekly Softball Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior pitcher Megan Russell (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) and junior second baseman Jamie Keltz (Avon, Ind./Avon) are the Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively.

Russell posted a pair of victories over Quincy on Sunday to help UIndy capture the No. 1 seed for the upcoming GLVC Tournament. She threw 14 innings against the 20th-ranked Lady Hawks and allowed just two earned runs, while striking out 17.
 
In UIndy’s 8-1 win in the opening game, Russell allowed just three hits and one earned run. She struck out 10 and walked two.
 
Russell returned in the nightcap to scatter four runs and strike out seven to secure the doubleheader sweep.
 
In the two games, she posted a 1.00 earned run average and allowed seven hits, three walks and struck out 17.
 
She is now 19-7 overall with a 1.91 ERA on the season. Russell has recorded a school-record 212 strikeouts in 161 and one-third innings of work.
 
Keltz paced the Greyhounds’ offense in the sweep of Quincy on Sunday. In the Hounds’ 8-1 victory, Keltz was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks.
 
She proved to be the difference maker in UIndy’s 3-2 victory in game two, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double, home run and run scored.
 
Keltz was 3-for-5 in the series with three RBIS and a run scored. Her home run was her team-leading 11th of the season and she is now second on the UIndy all-time list behind Russell.
 
On the year, Keltz is hitting a team-best .340 with 29 RBIs and 47 runs scored.
 
UIndy (34-13) is the top seed in the GLVC Tournament and will face Southern Indiana in the first round on Friday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill.
 
Other top performers in GLVC last week included Drury’s Amber Hayden, Missouri-St. Louis’ JaCee Ellis, Northern Kentucky’s Emily Schwaeble, Rockhurst’s Natalie Johnson, Saint Joseph’s Brittnie Boerema, UW-Parkside’s Stephanie Luska and Kallie Walczuk.
