INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky seniors Jason Cisper (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller) and Kevin Jordan (Louisville, Ky./Eastern) have been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. The Norse teammates headline the 2010 All-GLVC Baseball First Team.
Cisper is batting a league-best .468 this season and boasts an on-base percentage of .534. He also leads the league in runs scored (68), hits (94), doubles (26) and stolen bases (33).
In conference play, Cisper hit .479 with 24 RBIs, 44 runs scored, 14 doubles and 23 stolen bases. He finished league play with a .669 slugging percentage and .546 on-base percentage.
Jordan, a relief pitcher for the Norse, has made 30 appearances on the mound in 2010. He has collected a 7-3 record and a 1.98 earned run average in 86 and one-third innings pitched. Jordan has five saves and has struck out 68 batters while limiting opponents to a .207 batting average.
During the conference season, Jordan owned a 2.03 ERA and had a 4-2 record in 19 appearances. He struck out 43 hitters in 57 and two-third innings and registered three saves.
Joining Cisper and Jordan on the All-GLVC First Team is Bellarmine’s Patrick Brady, Drury’s Kendall Findley, Indianapolis’ Donovan Drake, Lewis’ Joe Scumaci, Missouri S&T’s Will Morrison, Northern Kentucky’s Jeff Bohlen, Shannon McCormick and Dave Middendorf, Rockhurst’s Ryan Porter, Saint Joseph’s Joe Dispensa and Sean Estand and Southern Indiana’s Dylan Mooney, Michael Huling and Trevor Leach.
Rockhurst’s Brandon Tangney has been named the 2010 GLVC Freshman of the Year. Tangney helped the Hawks earn a berth in the GLVC Tournament and to a 29-23 overall record. From the lead-off spot in the lineup, Tangney is hitting .333 with 52 runs scored, 26 RBIs, nine doubles and nine stolen bases. He is among team leaders in batting average, hits, runs scored, total bases and RBIs this season. In league play, Tangney hit .337 with 24 runs and 15 RBIs.
Northern Kentucky’s Todd Asalon has been named the 2010 GLVC Coach of the Year in a vote of the league’s 14 head coaches. It marks the second consecutive season Asalon has earned the league’s top coaching honor and fourth time overall. Asalon, in his tenth season as head coach of the Norse, has guided his team to a 40-13 overall record and to the top spot in the GLVC East Division with a 24-6 conference mark.
In addition to the first-team honorees, the GLVC has announced a 16-member All-GLVC Second Team and 16-member All-GLVC Third Team. The complete list of award recipients follows.
