Lewis Takes 2010 GLVC Softball Championship

EAST PEORIA, Ill. - The Lewis softball team utilized a some big hits and bigger defensive plays to capture the 2010 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament title with a 7-5 win over Northern Kentucky on Sunday afternoon at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, IL.
Karissa Habel picked up the win for Lewis to mover her to 18-7 on the year. Diana Pickrum recorded the saveby holding the Norse scoreless for the final 2and two-third innings.
Jayme Hefler paced the Lewis offense with three runs on 2-for-4 hitting and Sarah Hurley went 3-for-4 with a crucial three-run home run in the third inning to help the Flyers erase a 3-1 first-inning deficit.
April Ehlers suffered the loss for the Norse, who fall to 34-18 overall. Northern Kentucky received a three-run shot in the first inning from Ashley Gates and a two-run home run from Emily Schwaeble in the third inning which accounted for all of the Norse runs.
The championship is the ninth for the Flyers and their first since 2004.
