EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana baseball Head Coach Tracy Archuleta was named the 2010 Diamond/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Coach of the Year for the NCAA Division II on Wednesday.
Archuleta is only the second USI head coach to be named Coach of the Year nationally, joining Bruce Pearl who won the award from the National Basketball Coaches Association in 1995.
Archuleta, who also was named the Midwest Region Coach of the Year by the ABCA and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, led the Screaming Eagles to their first ever national championship in baseball and to a record-breaking 52-14 record this past spring. The Eagles also won their third straight GLVC West Division crown and their second Midwest Regional title in the last four seasons.
The Eagles also broke 23 individual and team records in 2010.
In four years at USI, Archuleta has a .691 winning percentage and a 170-76 record in putting the baseball Eagles on the national map. He is 318-200 (.614) in his nine seasons as a head coach at USI and the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
