LOUISVILLE, Ky.--Bellarmine University has appointed Jonathan Velotta as head coach of the women’s soccer team, effective immediately.
Velotta, who served as Bellarmine’s full-time assistant men’s and women’s soccer coach the previous four years, will oversee all facets of the women’s program including recruiting, on-field coaching and practices and continue as an assistant coach for the men’s team. Last season he helped Bellarmine’s women’s team to their first postseason appearance in school history while compiling a 14-4-1 record and setting school records for best winning percentage (.763); most wins (14--tied with 2006 team);
highest national ranking attained (20th); and fewest goal allowed in a season (10, previous record was 17).
Velotta played soccer collegiately at Brescia University where he was a 4-year starter and earned All-America status as a defender. After earning his bachelor’s degree in English, he went on to University of Louisville where he received a master’s in sport administration and served three seasons as an assistant coach for the U of L men’s soccer team. Velotta also works as the Technical Director of Mockingbird Valley Soccer Club here in Louisville and holds a USSF “A” License.
Tim Chastonay, who has served as head soccer coach for both the men’s and women’s teams at Bellarmine will continue as the men’s head coach and will serve as an assistant coach for the women’s team.
