ST. LOUIS- Top-seeded Bellarmine earned a trip to the 2011 GLVC Championship to defend its title from a year ago. The Knights (26-2) bested No. 6 Kentucky Wesleyan 86-73 in a semi-final matchup Saturday at Maryville University's Maloney Arena, avenging a loss to KWC Feb. 19.

After a hard-fought first half, Bellarmine found itself down 34-30 going into the halftime intermission. The Knights came out of the gate with an 11-2 run to recapture the lead, 41-36, promting a KWC timeout.

Coming out of the timeout by the Panthers (19-9), Anthony Young sank a three-pointer, which would be the first three of eight consecutive points from the KWC junior to tie the ballgame once again.

Bellarmine would regain the lead and push it to as many as 10 in the middle of the second half. A three-point score from GLVC Player of the Year Jeremy Kendle with about 7:30 on the clock expanded the Bellarmine lead to 15.

The Knights kept their lead to more than 10 points for the rest of the ballgame, cruising to the 86-73 victory. Kendle led Bellarmine with 23 points, while Chris Dow and Justin Benedetti each had 14 on the day.

Kentucky Wesleyan was led by Cardell McFarland, who poured in 25 points in the loss. The Knights advance to Sunday's GLVC Championship game for a matchup with No. 2-seeded Southern Indiana. Tip from Maloney Arena is slated for 1:00 p.m. CST.
