Southern Indiana Wins GLVC Women's Golf Championship

WATERLOO, Ill. - The Southern Indiana women's golf team claimed the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship on Saturday by posting a 313-301--614  during the 36-hole event held at Annbriar Golf Course.

The Eagles captured the schools' first GLVC women's golf title by rallying from an eight-stroke first-round deficit to Missouri-St. Louis and winning the event by four strokes. The round of 301 the Eagles posted on Saturday was their best 18-holes on the season.

The Eagles were led by sophomore Jessica Collins who earned All-GLVC honors with a sixth-place finish. Collins (76-75) fired a two-day score of 151 and was just four strokes off the lead.

Missouri-St. Louis sophomore Shweta Galande earned medalist honors at the tournament after shooting a five-over-par 147. The Tritons placed second as a team and were followed by Drury and Maryville who tied for third place.

Missouri-St. Louis' Daniel Viotti was named the GLVC Player of the Year and GLVC Freshman of the Year at the post event luncheon. Additionally, Southern Indiana head coach Don Bisesi and Indianapolis head coach Ken Piepenbrink were honored as GLVC Co-Coaches of the Year.
