INDIANAPOLIS –Bellarmine junior Seth Sigler (Logan, OH/Logan) is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, while Indianapolis’ Matt Royer (Avon, IN/Avon) earned the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week after their weekend performances.
Sigler, a junior, led the Knights at the Little Giant Invite hosted by Wabash College in Crawfordsville over the weekend. Sigler won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.16. Sigler’s time gave the Bellarmine men’s indoor track and field squad its third NCAA Provisional Qualifier in the 2012 season. Sigler’s efforts also earned him the Bellarmine school record for 60 meter hurdles.
Senior Matt Royer of Indianapolis also competed at the Little Giant Invite over the weekend where he met the NCAA Provisional mark in both the men’s weight throw and shot put events. Royer won the men’s weight throw event as he posted an NCAA automatic qualifying mark with his 20.98 meter toss. This throw also marked a new university and meet record. Along with his effort in the weight throw, Royer took first place in men’s shot meeting the NCAA qualifying mark with a throw of 17.61 meters.
Sigler and the Bellarmine squad return to action at the Engineer Invitational on Saturday, while the No. 11 ranked Indianapolis Greyhounds head to Marian, Indiana for the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational.
