2012 GLVC Championship Tournament Bracket
INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference released late Wednesday the bracket for the 2012 GLVC Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament. Quincy earned the No. 1 seed in the eight-team tournament and will serve as one of four hosts in the tournament’s opening-round contests, which take place this Sunday, Oct. 28. No. 2 William Jewell, No. 3 Bellarmine and No. 4 UW-Parkside will also host quarterfinal action on Sunday.
Top-seeded Quincy finished the regular season with a 12-2 conference record and a league winning percentage of .857. At 14-2-1 overall, the Lady Hawks will host No. 8 Drury (9-7-2, 7-6-2 GLVC, .533) on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Quincy, Ill. Quincy hosted the Panthers back on Sept. 23 and earned a 3-1 victory in the teams’ lone meeting this year.
No. 2 William Jewell (13-1-3, 11-1-3, .833) garnered the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will welcome No. 7 Lewis (10-6-1, 8-6-1 GLVC, .567) to Liberty, Mo., on Sunday for a quarterfinal matchup at 2 p.m. CT. The Flyers traveled to Liberty earlier in the year and escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Cardinals on Sept. 14.
Third-seeded Bellarmine (13-2-2, 11-2-2, .800) finished the conference season ranked third overall, and will now prepare to welcome No. 6 Southern Indiana (9-6-1, 9-5-1, .633) to Louisville, Ky., on Sunday. The Knights, who are coming off a recent 2-1 road win over the Screaming Eagles this past Sunday, will square off with USI at 12 p.m. ET on Sunday.
No. 4 seed UW-Parkside (12-3-1, 11-3, .786) hosts No. 5 Rockhurst (12-2-3, 10-2-3, .767) at 12 p.m. CT on Sunday. The Rangers are winners of nine straight games, but dropped one of their three conference losses to Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo., back on Sept. 14 by a score 1-0.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament, which will be hosted by the highest-seeded semifinalist on Friday, Nov. 2. Two semifinal contests will be played Friday at times to be determined, while the 2012 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place Sunday, Nov. 4.
Last year, second-seeded Bellarmine captured its first-ever GLVC Championship as a result of a 2-1 advantage in penalty kicks after tying No. 4 Quincy 1-1 in double overtime.
