GLVC Women's Basketball Wraps Up First Round of Championship

ROLLA, Mo.- Defending GLVC Tournament champion Lewis had a 74-71 road victory over No. 5 seeded Missouri S&T on Sunday afternoon. The Flyers (8-19) were led by Madison Kish’s 21 points. Kish got hot from behind the arc as she sank five buckets from the three-point line. Kish also contributed six rebounds for the Lewis squad. Freshman Jess Reinhart added 20 points for the Flyers while Lebrenthia Murdock contributed 10. Pacing the Miners (18-9) was Kyesha Hall who tallied 19 points in 29 minutes of action.

ST. LOUIS- Host #6 seed Maryville advanced on in the 2012 SCHEEL's GLVC Women's Basketball Championship, defeating #11 seed Missouri-St. Louis 75-61 in first-round action Sunday afternoon. The Saints (15-11) got 23 points from Shelby Miller in the victory, with Abby Duethman completing the double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Rita Flynn added 11 for Maryville. The Tritons (10-16) were paced by 21 points from Kelly Carter, while Devonna Smith also tallied a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

OWENSBORO, Ky.- No. 8 seeded Kentucky Wesleyan (15-12) defeated the Saint Joseph’s Pumas 84-73 in the first round of the GLVC Championship. Karly Rhoads posted a double-double to lead the Panthers. Rhoads had 19 points in 6-for-11 shooting and collected 10 rebounds for the Kentucky Wesleyan team. Saint Joseph’s (14-13) was led by Tatiana Ortiz who added 17 points for the Pumas. The Kentucky Wesleyan squad will advance in the championship and will continue play on Thursday in Springfield, Illinois.

INDIANAPOLIS-The No. 7 seeded Indianapolis women’s basketball team (18-9) earned an 84-56 postseason victory over visiting Bellarmine in the first round of the GLVC Basketball Championship. The Greyhounds were led by Kristin Turner who put up an impressive 29 points in 32 minutes of work. Katy McIntosh also hit double figures in scoring for the Greyhounds as she posted 22 points. Bellarmine’s Kylee Hamilton put up 15 points for the Knights who finish the season at 13-4 overall.
