Grand Valley State eliminates LEWIS, 9-5 | BOX | RECAP
YPSILANTI, Mich. - No. 6 seeded Lewis baseball saw their 2012 season come to an end on Friday afternoon at the hands of No. 2 seeded and No. 9 nationally Grand Valley State. The Lakers bested the Flyers 9-5 in the Midwest Regional elimination contest at Oestrike Stadium on the campus of Eastern Michigan University. The bid to the Midwest Regional was the first for Lewis since 1996. The Flyers held leads of 3-1, 4-3 and 5-4, but the Lakers had an answer each time. GVSU broke the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh to take an 8-5 lead. Three of the four runs in the seventh scored with two outs. Michael Schroeder finished the game with two hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Flyers, while Ben Albano scored twice. GVSU improved to 42-15, while Lewis ended the 2012 season 33-22.
INDIANAPOLIS eliminates Wayne State, 8-5 | BOX | RECAP
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The 15th-ranked UIndy baseball team (44-14) upped its winning streak to seven with an 8-5 victory against Wayne State Friday at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional. The win moves the Hounds into Saturday's regional semifinal where they will face the winner of tonight's Rockhurst/Northern Kentucky match-up. First pitch from Oestrike Stadium tomorrow is scheduled for 11 a.m.
ROCKHURST def. NORTHERN KENTUCKY, 6-1 | BOX | RECAP
YPSILANTI, Mich. - Mark Himmelberg and Josh Samuelson held Northern Kentucky to four hits to lead Rockhurst to a 6-1 victory Friday on the second day of the NCAA Midwest Regional at Oestrike Stadium in Ypsilanti, Mich. The fifth-seeded Hawks, 34-17, will meet top-seeded Indianapolis at 10 a.m. Saturday in the double-elimination regional. Rockhurst and Indianapolis are the only unbeaten teams left in the regional. Fourth-seeded Northern Kentucky and second-seeded Grand Valley State will play an elimination game at 1:30 pm Saturday. Himmelberg struck out six and walked three over seven innings to improve his record to 8-2. Samuelson did not allow a base-runner over the final two innings. Sean Carter went 3-for-4 with two doubles to lead the nine-hit Rockhurst attack. Samuelson drove in two runs with a pair of RBI singles. Brandon Tangney added an RBI double in the eighth and Kirk Huismann singled home the final run in the ninth.
