The University of Indianapolis softball team ended their 2013 campaign with a heartbreaking loss in the Super Regional Championship Game against Grand Valley State University, 3-2 at Baumgartner Field.

The top ranked Greyhounds started the Super Regional Championships with a tough, 5-3 loss to the Lakers Friday (May 17).  On Saturday, UIndy staved off elimination with a 4-2 win in the first game, but could not finish off the talented Lakers, as GVSU's Briana Taylor delivered a two-out RBI single in the sixth to score her twin sister Brittany Taylor with what proved to be the winning run in the third game.

UIndy ends the season with a school-record 54 wins.  The Greyhounds also set program marks for runs scored (401), doubles (97), RBIs (359) and total bases (822) this season, while also tying the single-season record for home runs (58).

Top seed Indianapolis (53-7) lost its first NCAA Super Regional game, 5-3, to No. 9 seed Grand Valley State (43-6) at Baumgartner Field Friday afternoon.  The Greyhounds scored their three runs on three hits, while the Lakers scattered eight hits through the game. With the win, Grand Valley State took the early edge in the best two-of-three series, with UIndy needing to win both games of Saturday’s doubleheader in order to advance to the NCAA National Championship.

The two teams will face off again at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. Should UIndy win, a second game will follow 30 minutes after the first to decide the Super Regional champion.
