Daktronics All-America Program Releases Softball All-Midwest Region Teams

INDIANAPOLIS - The 2013 Daktronics Division II Softball All-America Team was released Thursday, featuring a total of 20 student-athletes from the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
 
Leading the GLVC selections with six honorees on the First-Team from Indianapolis is pitcher Morgan Foley, first baseman Bailey Wittenauer, second baseman Alexa Alfaro, third baseman Kelsey Rummell, outfielder Casey Williamson, and utility/pitcher Jennifer DeMotte, followed by Lewis outfielder Jayme Hefler, Missouri-St. Louis pitcher Hannah Perryman, Missouri S&T catcher Kaylea Smith, and William Jewell utility/non-pitcher Rachel Hayden.  DeMotte was also chosen as the Midwest Pitcher of the Year, the two-time recipient of the region's top pitcher award finished her collegiate career as the Greyhounds’ all-time leader in pitching wins (97), strikeouts (755) shutouts, (40) and innings pitched, while also setting offensive records for most career doubles (48) and walks (117).
 
Ten GLVC softball standouts was named to the Second-Team starting with Bellarmine’s second baseman Tabby Shewmaker and third baseman Madi Ratliff, Drury outfielder Stacy Razo, Indianapolis designated player Taylor Russell, Lewis pitcher Kelly Bowler, Missouri-St. Louis catcher Madison Zbaraschuk, Rockhurst shortstop Natalie Johnson, Southern Indiana’s utility/pitcher Brooke Harmening and utility/non-pitcher MacKenzi Dorsam, and William Jewell outfielder Rachel Potvin.
 
Earning a spot on the Honorable Mention team was UIndy seniors Rummell and Wittenauer, along with William Jewell’s Hayden.  A four-year starter for the Greyhounds, Rummell finished her career ranked in the top three all-time at UIndy in runs (128), hits (213) and stolen bases (74), while Wittenauer, who transferred to the school for her senior season, racked up 10 home runs and 51 RBIs while slugging .587 for the Greyhounds in 2013.  Elsewhere, Hayden hit .394, and led the Cardinals with 54 hits, 42 RBIs, 12 doubles, and six home runs.  Her .642 slugging percentage led William Jewell to 32-15 record this season.  Hayden also went 13-4 in the circle for the Cardinals, pitching a team leading 103 innings with a 2.09 ERA.
