Since joining the Great Lakes Valley Conference as one of six charter members, the University of Indianapolis (then Indiana Central) has long had a storied success on the conference golf links. The Greyhounds’ men’s and women’s golf teams have combined to win 23 of the 52 GLVC Championships that have been contested, including a league-best 15 conference crowns on the men’s side and a league-high eight titles on the women’s side.
This past week, UIndy swept the GLVC men’s and women’s golf titles for the second straight year.
Following the women’s third consecutive conference championship, GLVCsports.com talked with UIndy head men’s and women’s golf coach Brent Nicoson about the Hounds’ legacy on the links and the special journey he has endured. After competing as a student-athlete at UIndy, Nicoson followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and became a third-generation Greyhound coach.
In this week’s edition of 35|35, which celebrates the 35th anniversary of the GLVC, Nicoson talks about how he was charged with upholding and strengthening the tradition of UIndy golf, and highlights the former standout players and coaches that have left their mark on both programs.
