INDIANAPOLIS – For the first time in the event history, 18 student-athletes representing each of the Great Lakes Valley Conference’s football programs have been selected to attend the 2014 GLVC Football Kickoff, which will take place in Lebanon, Illinois on Friday, August 1. The GLVC contingent, highlighted by 10 All-Conference returners, will participate in the third annual event, which will serve both the league’s media members and passionate fans through several social media outlets. The 2014 GLVC Football Kickoff will take place at The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on the campus of McKendree University from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. CT.
Three first-team All-GLVC selections from a year ago highlight the select group, including both representatives from Saint Joseph’s College. Senior running back
Braxton Shelton (183 carries, 1102 yards, 13 TD in 2013) and senior linebacker
Gary Yeoman (66 tackles, 18.5 TFL, 8.5 sacks, 3 INT) were both named to the first team at their respective positions last season, while Yeoman was also an honorable mention selection at linebacker in 2012. Yeoman is just one of two Kickoff attendees to have earned All-Conference accolades in the first two seasons of GLVC football, with University of Indianapolis senior defensive back
Koby Orris (47 tackles, 4 INT, 2 FF) being the other. Orris, who has earned back-to-back second-team All-Conference recognition at his position, will be joined by teammate and fellow senior, running back
Matt Ripp (372 yds, 6.4 ypc, 10 TD).
Truman State University senior linebacker
Matthew Bell (83 tackles, 10.0 TFL, 5.0 sacks, INT) is the final first-team All-Conference attendee to return for the 2014 campaign, having helped his Bulldogs to a runner-up finish last year in the first season as a GLVC member. He will accompany senior wide receiver
Jared Haferbier (37 catches, 308 yards) to the league’s preseason event.
In addition to Saint Joseph’s, McKendree is the only other team to boast two All-GLVC members at the event in junior quarterback
Isaac Fisher (1,961 pass yards, 19 TD) and senior linebacker
Bryce Colvin (34 tackles, 3 TFL, 0.5 sacks). Fisher was an honorable mention pick last season while Colvin was named to the second team as a linebacker in 2012.
Missouri S&T will be represented by 2014 second-team All-GLVC defensive lineman and senior
Dan Mauszycki (36 tackles, 6 sacks, 13 TFL) and senior wideout
Nick Taylor (38 catches, 460 yds., 1 TD). Quincy University boasts the other All-Conference pick from last year in honorable mention offensive lineman, senior
Kyle Lomprez (Started all 11 games), who will be joined by senior linebacker
Dan Camp (89 tackles, 53 solo, 8.0 TFL, 2 INT, 1.0 sack). William Jewell College will be represented by junior wide receiver
Nate Egharevba (386 yds, 4 TD) and junior linebacker
Nick Messer (Team-high 6 INT).
New to the GLVC this year is former Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) members Lincoln University and Southwest Baptist University. Both teams will play the 2014 schedule as GLVC associate members and bring All-Conference honorees of their own to GLVC Football Kickoff. Lincoln senior running back
Morris Henderson (1,266 Rush Yds., 12 TD, 709 KRet yds, 1 TD) was a second-team All-MIAA pick last year, while Southwest Baptist senior wide receiver
Derwyn Lauderdale (1,056 yds, 6 TD; 265 ret yds, 1 TD) was a third-team selection. The pair will be joined by their teammates, senior quarterback
Jacob Morris (2,076 Pass yds, 16 Pass TD, 645 Rush yds, 8 Rush TD) and junior defensive back
Antion McBee (1 FR, 20 yds), respectively.
The head coach and two student-athletes from each of the nine GLVC football institutions will be on hand to help promote the conference’s third season. In the first two events, just one student-athlete was invited to participate. Fans are encouraged to participate in the event through a variety of social media platforms, and interact with each GLVC school as they rotate through stations over the course of the 90-minute event. A complete schedule, as well as the official GLVC Football Kickoff 2014 website, will be announced on Tuesday, July 29.
Media members interested in attending the GLVC Football Kickoff 2014 can apply for credentials by contacting GLVC Assistant Commissioner Jeff Smith at jeff@glvc-sports.org.
