KENOSHA, Wis. – The University of Southern Indiana women’s cross country team clinched its fifth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

The Screaming Eagles scored 53 points and topped runner-up Lewis University (68) and third-place finisher University of Wisconsin-Parkside (83) for their 10th overall conference crown and seventh in the last eight years.  The 10 GLVC titles are the most won by a program in conference history.

Bellarmine University (94) and the University of Indianapolis (101) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while Maryville University (150), Truman State University (214) and William Jewell College (280) rounded the top half of the field.  McKendree University (284) and Saint Joseph’s College (295) were ninth and 10th.  Missouri S&T (327), Rockhurst University (337), Drury University (362), Quincy University (397) and Illinois Springfield (445) rounded out the 15-team field.

After finishing third at the Conference meet as a freshman and second in her sophomore season, Lewis junior Amanda Farrough earned the individual crown to become the first Flyer to cross the tape first since Kathryn Hague earned the 2010 title, which was also captured at UW-Parkside.  The GLVC Runner of the Year crossed the line in 20 minutes, 51.2 seconds, more than a half-minute ahead of runner-up Emily Roberts (21:24.1) of Southern Indiana.  Farrough’s time marked the second-fastest winning time in league history, falling eight seconds shy of the 20:43.56 record set by UW-Parkside’s Jessica (Lamp) Monson in 2008.  It was nearly another half-minute before third-place finisher Moriah Palmer (22:00.5) of UW-Parkside touched the pads.  USI senior Jessica Reeves (22:08.0) and Bellarmine senior Flannery Musk (22:08.6) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Places six through 15 were also named All-Conference honorees, including Lewis’ Kristen Bosnor (6th, 22:14.0), Indianapolis’ Kieran Casey (7th, 22:16.0), Emily Odle (9th, 22:23.6) and Jasmine Al-Anzi (13th, 22:33.9), Maryville’s Elizabeth Kiblinger (8th, 22:20.8) and Emily Mauch (12th, 22:33.6), UW-Parkside’s Amanda Johnson (10th, 22:28.7) and Lindsay Rogers (11th, 22:31.7), and Southern Indiana’s Cathryn Peter (14th, 22:39.8) and Jessica Lincoln (15th, 22:40.5).

At the conclusion of the GLVC Championship, UW-Parkside’s Johnson was named GLVC Freshman of the Year as the highest-placing freshman, while Mike Hillyard was voted by his peers as GLVC Coach of the Year, marking his fifth straight honor and 10th overall.

Coverage of the 2015 GLVC Cross Country Championships will be shown on the GLVC Sports Network at a time and date to be determined.
