INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Lakes Valley Conference released Wednesday night the bracket for the 2016 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. Truman State University earned the No. 1 seed in the eight-team tournament and will serve as one of four hosts in the tournament's opening-round contests, which take place this Sunday, Oct. 30. No. 2 Rockhurst University, No. 3 University of Missouri-St. Louis and No. 4 McKendree University will also host quarterfinal action on Sunday.
Top-seeded Truman State finished the regular season with a 12-1-2 Conference record to capture its first-ever regular season championship as GLVC members. The Bulldogs share the regular season title with Rockhurst - which garnered the same winning percentage - but earned the top seed by virtue of a 1-0 road win on Oct. 2 against the Hawks. At 13-1-2 overall, the 18th-ranked Bulldogs will make their fourth appearance in the GLVC Championship Tournament - after winning the crown last season - when they host No. 8 seed University of Southern Indiana (9-8-1, 6-8-1 GLVC, .867) on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in Kirksville, Missouri. Truman faced the Screaming Eagles at home earlier this season on Sept. 18 and cruised to a 3-0 win. Southern Indiana is making its 11th appearance and first in four years. The game will stream live on the GLVC Sports Network at
GLVCSN.com.
The co-regular season title is also the first for No. 2 Rockhurst (15-1-2, 12-1-2, .867), which makes its seventh consecutive postseason trip and 11th overall, and will play host to No. 7 Quincy (6-9-2, 6-8-1, .433) in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday for a quarterfinal matchup at a time yet to be determined. The 15th-ranked Rockhurst Hawks continue their 12-year streak, earning a bid every season since joining the league; however, they have yet to win the coveted GLVC crown. The Quincy Hawks have won two regular season and two postseason league titles and will be making their 18th overall and 11th-straight appearance. They claimed the seventh seed after winning a three-way tie between USI and Lewis University with a 2-0 record against those teams. Quincy narrowly lost 1-0, however, at Rockhurst on Sept. 30.
Third-seeded Missouri-St. Louis (11-3-1, 11-3-1, .767) welcomes No. 6 University of Wisconsin-Parkside (10-5-2, 10-4-1, .700) to St. Louis, Missouri, Sunday for a 1 p.m. CT kickoff. The Tritons earned the No. 3 seed and advance to the postseason event for the 15th time and second year in a row, but haven't yet won the GLVC trophy. The Rangers advance for their GLVC record-19th trip with sights set on their sixth championship crown to add to their titles from 2003, 2004, 2008, 2010 and 2014 - the most of any active league member. Earlier this year on Oct. 9, UMSL topped UW-Parkside 1-0 at home. The quarterfinal match will air live on the GLVC Sports Network.
No. 4 McKendree (14-4, 11-4, .733) returns to the postseason for its third trip after its first bid in 2013 and most recent one a year ago. The Bearcats will battle No. 5 Bellarmine University (11-2-4, 9-2-4, .733) at 12 p.m. CT in Lebanon, Illinois - a rematch of the Oct. 23 contest in which McKendree earned a 1-0 victory. The Knights are making their ninth consecutive GLVC Championship Tournament appearance and 15th overall, as they won their first and only title in 2011. The GLVCSN will air the first-round game live.
Each of the four quarterfinal winners will advance to the GLVC Championship Tournament semifinals, which will be hosted for the first time in the sport's history at a neutral site by the GLVC at Carroll Stadium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Friday, Nov. 4. Two semifinal contests will be played at times to be determined, while the 2016 GLVC Championship Tournament final will take place Sunday, Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. ET. Both semifinal matches as well as the final can be viewed live on the GLVCSN at
GLVCSN.com.
Last year, second-seeded Truman State captured its first GLVC Championship as a result of a 2-0 victory over No. 4 Missouri-St. Louis.
