INDIANAPOLIS – McKendree University sophomore quarterback Reece Metcalf and senior kicker Steven O’Block, as well as Southwest Baptist University junior defensive end D’Angelo Tucker, earned Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week honors in football, it was announced by the league office Monday. 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Reece Metcalf, McKendree
So., QB, Mount Carmel, Illinois

Team Result: 55-3 win at Lincoln
  • Threw for 338 yards on 20-of-23 passing in first career start
  • Netted completion percentage of .870, breaking previous school record of .867, set by Isaac Fisher in 2015 against Lincoln
  • Completed his first 10 passes on the day and ended with a 213.3 passing-efficiency rating
  • Also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown to help McKendree to season highs of 556 yards of total offense and 55 points
  • Earns his first career Offensive Player of the Week award
  • Last McKendree Offensive Player of the Week:  Isaac Fisher (10/5/15)
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
D’Angelo Tucker, Southwest Baptist
Jr., DE, Olive Branch, Mississippi

Team Result: 45-22 home win vs. Missouri S&T
  • Recorded 10 tackles, including seven solo stops, and a forced fumble in first career start
  • Netted 2.0 sacks for 14 yards lost and 3.0 tackles for loss for minus-19 yards
  • Led SBU unit that held GLVC’s second-highest scoring offense (34.8) to 22 points, including six points in the second half
  • Helped guide SBU to its program-record eighth win of the season
  • Earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award
  • Last Southwest Baptist Defensive Player of the Week:  Via Manuma (10/17/16)

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Steven O’Block, McKendree
Sr., K, Libertyville, Illinois

Team Result: 55-3 win at Lincoln
  • Accounted for 13 points on a perfect kicking day, having converted seven extra points while going 2-for-2 on field goal attempts (31, 22 yards)
  • Became school’s career leader in kick scoring with 261 points, besting previous mark of 253 set by Stephen Webb from 2002-05
  • Averaged 58.0 yards on 10 kickoffs with four touchbacks
  • Notched second consecutive week of double-digit scoring (16 points for week of 10/24)
  • Earns his second-straight and third career Special Teams Player of the Week award (10/24/16, 9/28/15)
