INDIANAPOLIS -- Twenty-two Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) student-athletes representing eight member institutions earned a total of 25 All-America accolades, while one earned a national title last week at the 2016 NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Bradenton, Florida.

Lewis University senior Amber Cook earned the NCAA Championship in the triple jump with a school-record jump of 12.89 meters.  She was not the first Flyer to earn a national title this season, however, as teammate Amanda Farrough won the NCAA Division II Indoor 5,000-meter crown earlier this year.

Other individual feats included Lewis’ Farrough placing second in the 5,000 meters (16:35.58), University of Southern Indiana sophomore Emily Roberts finishing second in the 10,000 meters (34:33.47), William Jewell College junior Blake Alexander notching a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles (14.02), USI senior Johnnie Guy nabbing fourth in the 10,000 meters (29:46.86), and fifth-place results by Guy in the 5,000 meters (14:16.74), Lewis senior Isaac Jean-Paul in the high jump (2.13m) and freshman Cierra Pulliam in the triple jump (12.56m), and University of Indianapolis sophomore Kieran Casey in the 1,500 meters (4:24.99).

Student-athletes earned first-team U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors by virtue of finishing among the top eight in their events, including as a member of a relay.  Second-team honors were bestowed upon those finishing ninth through 12th.

Of the 25 All-America distinctions, 13 were first-team accolades made up of six women and five men, while the remaining 12 second-team laurels were earned by eight men and three women.  Lewis’ Chantel Stennis, along with USI’s Guy and Tyler Pence, earned two All-America accolades at the national meet.  Stennis placed sixth in both the 200 (23.96) and 400 meters (53.67), while Pence was 12th in both the 5,000 (14:33.83) and 10,000 meters (31:13.39).
