This Week in GLVC Women's Basketball: Jan. 26 & 28

More GLVC women's basketball divisional games are on the docket Thursday and Saturday. Indianapolis (13-6, 7-2) has a tough road ahead this week, welcoming the East Division's co-leaders in No. 4 Bellarmine (16-1, 8-1 GLVC) on Thursday followed by Southern Indiana (16-3, 8-1 GLVC) Saturday. UIndy is currently third in the division and can move into at least a tie for first if it wins both. The West Division's second- and third-place teams will face off Thursday as Missouri-St. Louis (9-8, 4-5 GLVC) travels to Rockhurst (11-5, 6-3 GLVC). The Hawks may also have its hands full on Saturday, hosting Maryville (7-9, 3-6 GLVC) that upset then-No. 19 Lewis on Jan. 14 and also came out on top against UMSL two days later. The top story of the night in GLVC women's basketball was Indianapolis' upset win over No. 11 Bellarmine, 80-65. Two Greyhounds scored 25 points to lead the way, including Nicole Anderson and Martha Burse. Meanwhile, thanks to the Knights' loss and Southern Indiana's 85-66 win at Saint Joseph's, the Screaming Eagles moved into first place in the East. Mary Dineen notched 24 points for Rockhurst in a 78-71 home win past Missouri-St. Louis to solidify second place in the West, while UMSL's Jordan Fletcher tallied her second double-double in a row with 22 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Others winning on their home court included UW-Parkside, 78-54, against Illinois Springfield with three scoring in doubles digits, and Lewis over McKendree, 65-50. Elsewhere, No. 12 Drury topped Truman State, 64-57, on the road with reigning GLVC Player of the Week Heather Harman scoring 20 to help the Panthers extend their league-best winning streak to double figures at 10 in a row. Maryville picked up a solid win at William Jewell, 56-47, and rounding out the results for the night is Missouri S&T's 72-59 road win at Quincy.

Southern Indiana went 2-0 on the week and secured first place in the GLVC's East Division at 10-1, as Tanner Marcum scored 21 points in the 58-47 win at Indianapolis to pick up her 1,000th career point. Behind Stephanie Sherwood's game-high 18 points, Maryville earned a solid road win at Rockhurst in overtime, 68-65, to go 2-0 this week. Also collecting road wins was No. 12 Drury and No. 11 Bellarmine at Quincy and Saint Joseph's, respectively. Lewis' Jessica Kelliher led the team to a perfect 2-0 week with a 71-63 home win past Illinois Springfield with 22 points on 10-for-11 shooting, while Truman State's Rachel Edmundson's 19 scores led the way in an 89-56 win over visiting Missouri S&T. Maddie Nelson notched 15 and added 10 boards to decisively lift William Jewell over Missouri-St. Louis at home 64-41, while UW-Parkside went 2-0 by narrowly defeating McKendree, 53-51.
