This Week in GLVC Women's Basketball: Nov. 20-26

GLVC women's basketball Week the Thanksgiving week on Monday with three teams facing non-conference opponents, including William Jewell and Rockhurst hosting. Three regional contests are on tap for Wednesday as Indianapolis visits Tiffin, UW-Parkside will be playing at Ferris State and Lewis will host Purdue Northwest all ahead of celebrating the holiday Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday, Drury is hosting a Thanksgiving Classic where Missouri S&T will also play. Rockhurst will be traveling to play in the Missouri Western Classic, Truman is competing in another Thanksgiving Classic hosted by Washburn, and William Jewell will visit Metro State for another holiday classic event. In addition, Bellarmine will host a Saturday-Sunday Thanksgiving Classic that Southern Indiana will be attending, as well.

All three teams in action picked up non-conference wins Monday night, as both William Jewell and Maryville surpassed the 80-point mark and Rockhurst tallied 75 in its victory. Jewell's Katie Finn helped the Cardinals to victory with her 20-point performance, while the Hawks got 14 from Madeline Ronshausen and the Saints got 16 from three different players. Kayla Steward, Amanda Ponce and Ali Ringering each accomplished the team-high for points, while Steward also added seven rebounds and  four assists.

Lewis' Rachel Hinders put forth a double-double of 17 points and 15 rebounds in the 71-57 regional win over Purdue Northwest, while UIndy's Martha Burse went for 24 points to complement Ashley Montanez's 16 points and 11 boards.

Four out of the five post-Thanksgiving games were won by GLVC teams, including William Jewell, Truman State, Rockhurst and Drury. Adriana Rodriguez doubled up with her 14 points and 10 boards to lead William Jewell, while Drury's Hailey Diestelkamp went for 14 and 12 in the home victory.

Five league teams got wins Friday, including UW-Parkside, Missouri-St. Louis, Drury, Southern Indiana and Illinois Springfield. For UIS, Arielle Jackson scored 20 points to lead the way on the road. Drury's Alice Heinzler nearly ecplised the 30-point mark with her 28 in the home win. USI's Kaydie Grooms flirted with a double-double after nine rebounds and 27 points, while reigning GLVC Player of the Week Morgan Dahlstrom achieved the feat with 15 and 13, respectively.

Closing out the holiday week, Lewis and Southern Indiana got wins in the Midwest region. Lewis' Kelliher nearly matched a career-high (38) scoring outing with her 37 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, as well, for her first double-double this season. USI's Kacy Eschweiler stepped up big, too, scoring a career-high 23 points to lead the way in just 26 minutes of action.
