EAST PEORIA, Ill. – No. 3 University of Missouri-St. Louis has garnered the 2017 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship after defeating No. 4 Truman State University, 5-0, at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Illinois, Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Missouri-St. Louis collects its fourth league title in five years and is the Conference’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division II Tournament.
UMSL set the tone early thanks to a solo homer to left center field from senior Erin Walker in the top of the first inning for a 1-0 lead. Five more innings were played with no runners crossing home, despite Truman loading the bases in the bottom half of the sixth. UMSL matched a bases-load scenario in the top of the seventh, and then Morgan Hill came to bat. The redshirt-freshman proceeded to belt a grand slam and seal the deal for the Tritons, as the Bulldogs weren’t able to plate a run during their attempt in the bottom half of the inning.
UMSL will learn its opponent for the NCAA regional when the announcement is made Monday at 10 a.m. ET. The selection show can be seen live on
