2016-17 Academic All-GLVC Honorees
INDIANAPOLIS – The Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) announced Tuesday that the 2016-17 season marked the first time in league history that more than 2,900 student-athletes have garnered Academic All-GLVC distinction. A total of 2,975 honorees have been recognized, marking a 15-percent increase from last year and the seventh-straight record season for the league as previous bests were set in 2010-11 (1,481), 2011-12 (1,681), 2012-13 (2,002), 2013-14 (2,360), 2014-15 (2,431), and 2015-16 (2,584).
The Academic All-GLVC honor is bestowed upon student-athletes who meet a cumulative GPA of 3.30 over two semesters of an academic year at the institution.
Not counting the 28 honorees from football associate members Lincoln University and Southwest Baptist University, the 2,947 honorees from full-time GLVC members averaged out to 184 selections per school, which also broke last season’s record average of 160. Over the course of the last five years, the per-school averages had been 151 in 2014-15, 147 in 2013-14, 124 in 2012-13, and 105 in 2011-12.
The list of honorees features students from the following sports: baseball (315), men’s basketball (76), women’s basketball (145), men’s cross country (113), women’s cross country (151), football (223), men’s golf (100), women’s golf (84), men’s soccer (222), women’s soccer (279), softball (217), men’s swimming and diving (94), women’s swimming and diving (113), men’s tennis (72), women’s tennis (93), men’s track and field (196), women’s track and field (241), volleyball (170), and wrestling (71).
