INDIANAPOLIS – Semifinal action for the 2019 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Tournament has been set for Saturday, following four quarterfinal matches on Friday inside the UIndy Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Three of the four lower seeded teams advanced to the semifinals after upset victories, including Bellarmine University, Drury University, University of Illinois Springfield, and University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Bellarmine, the fourth seed in the East, shocked the West’s top seed and 21st-ranked Drury University, 4-3, in the biggest upset of the day. The Knights went ahead 1-0 after winning the doubles point but dropped behind, as Drury built a 3-1 lead after winning at Nos. 1-3 singles. However, Bellarmine dominated at Nos. 4-6 singles, not losing more than two games in any set, which secured victory.

In Match 2, #3E Illinois Springfield also scored a 4-3 upset win against #2W Maryville. UIS made program history by advancing to the semifinal round for the first time ever.

No. 3 West Missouri-St. Louis picked up a 4-2 upset victory over No. 2 East Lewis, while No. 1 East Indianapolis made quick work of No. 4 West Rockhurst with a 4-0 sweep in the first match of the day.

The Prairie Stars will now meet the Greyhounds and the Knights will face the Tritons in Saturday’s semifinals, as both matches will begin at 9 a.m. ET inside the UIndy Tennis Center.
