The Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Basketball Championship will be conducted for the 14th consecutive year in 2011 with Maloney Arena on the campus of Maryville University serving as the site of the quarterfinals, semifinals and final on Mar. 4-6.

Maloney Arena is located in the John E. and Adeline Simon Athletic Center on Maryville's campus located in West St. Louis County. Maryville, one of the GLVC's newest members, is one of the oldest private institutions in the region and will serve as a neutral site for the GLVC Championship in 2011. The Saints will not be eligible for GLVC Basketball Championships until the 2012 tournament.

The top three teams from each of the thre three GLVC divisional standings, along wih three wild card teams will qualifty for the 12-team tournament, on the basis of the highest percentage of conference games won during the regular season. The top six seeds based on Section 3.C.2.b will host first round games on campus on Saturday two weekends prior to the NCAA Regional Tournament. The tournament field will be reseeded following first round competition with the remaining six teams advancing to Maryville. The two highest remaining seeds following the first round of the tournament will advance to semifinal play on Mar. 5. The other four remaining seeds will meet in the quarterfinals on Mar. 4.

There have been six different teams claim the GLVC Basketball Tournament title. Drury (2), Indianapolis (1), Lewis (1), Northern Kentucky (4), Quincy (2), and Southern Indiana (3) have all won tournament crowns. Northern Kentucky leads all institutions with four tournament titles and the Norse claimed their most recent crown in 2009.

The 2011 GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament winner will be named the GLVC Champion and earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament.

Last year, Drury defeated UW-Parkside in the championship game of the 2010 GLVC Women's Basketball Tournament. The Panthers claimed their second league title in three years with the victory.

*Prior to the 2004-05 season, the GLVC Champion was determined by the regular season standings, with the automatic qualifer determined by the GLVC Tournament.
