The 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship will be held on May 6-8 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., It will mark the eighth straight year the GLVC Sofball Championship will be held at the EastSide Centre. 2011 will also mark the 28th annual softball championship.
The EastSide Centre is one of the nation's top softball facilities and annually hosts numerous events throughout the year. Mizuno Field, EastSide Centre's championship softball field, was named the Softball Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association in 2008.
The GLVC Softball Tournament will feature the top eight teams based on conference winning percentage following a round robin league schedule in which every GLVC team will play the other team in a doubleheader.
Lewis (9), Kentucky Wesleyan (4), Northern Kentucky (2), UW-Parkside (3), Southern Indiana (3) and former GLVC members SIU Edwardsville (5) and Ashland (1) have each claimed GLVC Softball Championships. Last year, Lewis defeated Northern Kentucky in the championship game 7-5 to notch its league-leading ninth GLVC Softball title.
