ROLLA, Mo. - The University of Indianapolis claimed the 2011 Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships on Sunday. The Greyhounds took both crowns for the second consecutive season at the events held at Bailey-Allgood Stadium in Rolla, Mo.

The UIndy men's team posted 221.5 total points to earn the championship. Bellarmine placed second with 134 total points, while host Missouri S&T finished in third place with 117 total points.

On the women's side, the Greyhounds scored a total of 196.33 points to edge Bellarmine who finished with 150.50 points.

The Greyhounds were led by Angelique McNeal and Robert Gardner who were named the GLVC Male and Female Outdoor Track Athletes of the Year. The duo also earned the GLVC honors for the indoor season in February.

Gardner won the 400-meter dash in an NCAA provisional time of 47.16, claimed first place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.47 and anchored the men's 4x100-meter relay team who took first place with an NCAA provisional time of 41.24.

McNeal won the women's 100-meter dash in a time of 11.81 and took home first place in the 200-meter dash in an NCAA provisional time of 24.51.

UIndy head coach Scott Fangman was named the GLVC Coach of the Year for both the men's and women's outdoor seasons.

Saint Joseph's Alexis DeJean was named the GLVC Female Field Athlete of the Year after winning three outdoor events. She earned first place in the shot put with a mark of 13.91 meters, won the discus throw with a mark of 46.95 meters and took first place in the hammer throw with a final mark of 50.54 meters.

Bellarmine's Elliot Mattingly earned the GLVC Male Athlete of the Year award after posting two first-place finishes and a second-place finish at the meet. He won the discus throw with a mark of 47.87 meters and took home first place in the javelin with a throw of 55.03 meters. Mattingly also placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 55.83 meters.

Teammate Ben Kolb was named the GLVC Male Freshman Athlete of the Year after winning the decathlon with a total score of 6,330. He won the javelin, discuss and high jump in the decathlon events to secure the win.

Lewis' Megan Marchildon was tabbed the GLVC Female Freshman Athlete of the Year after earning first place in the heptathlon with 4,539 total points.
