SPRINGFIELD, Ill.- No. 6 UIndy pulled off the 60-54 upset over #3 seed Drury in the first game of the day at the SCHEELS GLVC Women's Basketball Championship at the Prairie Capital Convention Center Thursday afternoon.
The Greyhounds (19-9) capitalized on just 20 percent shooting in the first half by the GLVC West Division co-champion Lady Panthers. At the halftime buzzer, the scoreboard read 23-13 in the favor of UIndy.
Drury (20-7) made it a ballgame in the second half, out-scoring the Greyhounds 41-37. All-GLVC First Team member Bethanie Funderburk put in 12 of her 13 total points in the second half.
UIndy was paced by All-GLVC First Teamer Kristin Turner, who put in 16 total points. Katy McIntosh tallied 13 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds for the victorious Greyhounds, while Megan Gardner chipped in 12 points in the win.
The Lady Panthers also got 13 points from Katie Pritchard in the loss, with Casey Carroll coming off the bench with 12 points.
#6 UIndy advances to the tournament quarterfinals to face off with the winner of #2 Wisconsin-Parkside and #7 Kentucky Wesleyan.
