2012 GLVC Softball Championship

The 2012 Great Lakes Valley Conference Softball Championship will be held on April 27-29 at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria, Ill., It will mark the ninth straight year the GLVC Softball Championship will be held at the EastSide Centre.  The 2012 event will also mark the 29th annual GLVC Softball Championship.
 
The EastSide Centre is one of the nation's top softball facilities and annually hosts numerous events throughout the year. Mizuno Field, EastSide Centre's championship softball field, was named the Softball Field of the Year by the Sports Turf Managers Association in 2008.
 
Eight teams will vie for the 2012 GLVC crown and the opportunity to represent the conference at the NCAA Division II National Championship. Those eight teams will consist of the top three teams from the East Division, the top three teams from the West Division and two wildcard teams.

After dropping the first game of the GLVC Championship round to Quincy last year, the 25th-ranked Lewis Flyers responded with a 1-0 victory over the Hawks to claim their second-straight GLVC title and their 10th overall.

 

Lewis' 10 titles paces the conference, followed by Kentucky Wesleyan (4), UW-Parkside (3), Southern Indiana (3) and Northern Kentucky (2).  Former GLVC members SIU Edwardsville (5) and Ashland (1) have also claimed GLVC Softball Championships.
